UPDATE 2: Demo & Excavation
We’re laying the foundation for the new two-story addition with a full-height basement.
Demo Day!
It’s time to demo the original kitchen & open the wall between the old kitchen and dining area. The kitchen/dining area is gutted to the studs, removing wall material, flooring, ceilings, cabinets, countertops, fixtures, and appliances. We’ll also demo a mechanical venting center chimney from the living room to create a larger kitchen where the whole family can cook together. Outside, Aa paver patio and concrete steps are removed before excavation.

Excavating For The New Foundation
The next step is digging a hole for the new addition full-height basement foundation. Because the house was once moved from Robbinsdale to a new foundation in St. Louis Park, the eight-foot ceilings in the basement are taller than the neighborhood average. Heavy machinery removes the dirt behind the house, creating a hole large enough for the foundation. Once the digging for the foundation is complete, a form is built for pouring the concrete frost footings. The footings guard against settling and slippage that can damage the new structure.
