What are shed dormers and why are they so popular around here?
The Twin Cities are filled with story-and-a-half homes that are perfect for a certain kind of addition, called a shed dormer. Learn more about this popular remodeling project.
With young, active children, two dogs, and both parents with home offices; our clients definitely needed more space. A mud room and family room addition with a new cedar deck were the answer. A pier and beam foundation with closed-cell spray foam insulation was chosen to help keep the budget in check. A 1-ton mini-split both heats and cools the vaulted, skylighted family room. Natural walnut flooring ties the old and new spaces together beautifully. The bright white mudroom with rear entry off the existing garage was designed to be entirely active family-ready with lots of under bench storage, hooks, and enameled white cabinetry. The mudroom is finished with wainscoting detail, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and a durable ceramic tile floor, illustrating you don’t have to sacrifice design for utility.
